Inmiddels zit er een nieuw college van GS en is ook vanuit de provincie de druk van de ketel.

Slochteren blijft evenwel vol gas werken aan de herindeling. De burgemeester hoopt dat anderen een ben bijtrekken en ook vol gas gaan. Daar zijn de nodige kanttekeningen bij te plaatsen. Want inmiddels is het opnieuw een bestuurlijke chaos in Menterwolde en gaat het in Hoogezand financieel minder goed. Moeten we daarom niet eens een tandje terugschakelen?

Volgens de burgemeester moeten we Friese toestanden voorkomen. Na de vorming van Súdwest Fryslân bleven een aantal gemeenten in de regio zelfstandig en kregen te maken met een grote gemeente als buurman. Tja, die situatie hebben we in Groningen ook. De stad is in omvang van bevolking en begroting een absoluut grote jongen. Daar verandert de voorgestelde herindeling ook niets aan. Die Friese toestand voldoet in Groningen al erg lang prima.
