vrijdag 19 december 2014 16:30 In navolging van de provincie Groningen, maar ook veel andere gemeenten en provincies in Nederland, heeft Slochteren zich uitgesproken tegen schaliegas. De ChristenUnie heeft een motie hiertoe mee ingediend.
Aan de winning van schaliegas kleven een aantal nadelen. Voor er gewonnen kan worden worden chemicaliën in de diepere ondergrond gebracht. Dit proces, -dat fracking wordt genoemd-, zorgt ervoor dat het gas gewonnen kan worden. Ervaringen in andere gebieden op aarde maken duidelijk dat dit het grondwater kan vervuilen en daarmee de drinkwatervoorziening en natuur aan kan tasten.
In Slochteren weten we wat gaswining voor gevolgen heeft. De bevingen hebben een grote invloed op veel van onze inwoners. Juist daarom vinden we het als ChristenUnie belangrijk om een signaal af te geven. Het is geen hypotetische discussie meer. De rijksoverheid staat onderzoeken toe en ziet mogelijkheden om schaliegas te winnen.
Juist daarom is het goed dat de gemeente Slochteren zich nu uitspreekt. Helaas zagen PvdA, CDA en VVD geen reden om zich uit te spreken tegen schaliegas. In eerste instantie omdat het een nationaal onderwerp is en we daar als gemeentelijke overheid niet over gaan. Dat mag waar zijn, maar dat is de winning van aardgas strikt genomen ook. En het is moeilijk vol te houden dat genoemde partijen zich hier lokaal en provinciaal afzijdig houden.
Het tegenstemmen van de PvdA mag helemaal bijzonder worden genoemd. Het was namelijk de Statenfractie van deze partij die een motie hierover eerder mee heeft ingediend.
